The UI Painter of VisualWorks allows you to place widgets on a window and configure them to change size when the window itself is resized. This mechanism, however, is difficult to use quickly. It takes considerable time and effort to manually configure all of the widgets. As such, it’s not easy to create quick and consistent prototypes of user interface applications.

Fluid Positioning attempts to rectify this by using some basic rules and UI layout principles to automatically set the position and sizing of widgets on a user interface. In most cases, users can create complete user interfaces without editing any positioning or layout parameters.

This technical demonstration will show the current state of the Fluid Positioning package, explain the challenges and difficulties encountered building it, and cover future directions for the work.
