Cloud Computing, Virtual Private Servers and Smalltalk

Much of the action in software development is cloud based now – and Smalltalk has a decent story to tell so far as running in (and taking advantage of) cloud services. I’ve been running a cloud based Smalltalk blog server since late 2009, so I’ve got personal experience in this space. In this talk I’ll discuss:  • Running a Smalltalk server on a VPS • Configuring the server to use your Smalltalk application • Hosting audio and video in the cloud, and using it from your Smalltalk server  A lot of that is not specifically related to Smalltalk, but is likely of interest to Smalltalk developers who are interested in hosting web applications in the cloud. I’ll have some “lessons learned” about using services like such as YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook, and Amazon AWS.
